Sandler and Barrymore fun in "Blended"

So, any time an Adam Sandler movie comes out, most people think that it's going to be the same old story. The goofy-looking flawed Sandler is either married to or is pursuing a female counterpart significantly more attractive than him. Through bumbling situations and wanna-be heart-warming moment, we get a factory line comedy worthy of maybe a matinee ticket.

Look, I have yet to see a movie starring Adam Sandler that I haven't liked (surprise, surprise). I'm a fan. The guy can act. Some of my favorite movies of his are not necessarily comedies. "Punch-Drunk Love", "Reign Over Me", and "Spanglish" are but a few that I really, thoroughly enjoy. There's something about comedic actors and how well they can play dramatic roles. Sandler's portrayal of Charlie Fineman in "Reign Over Me" is both polarizing and heart-felt. Another good example is Jim Carrey in "The Number 23". Spooky good, but moving on...

"Blended" is a feel-good comedy that reunites "The Wedding Singer" and "50 First Dates" duo of Sandler and Drew Barrymore. After a horrible excuse of a blind date, Jim (Sandler) and Lauren (Barrymore) through crazy circumstances only an outrageous comedy can provide, find themselves stuck sharing a vacation at a resort for families. Add their respective kids and a host of insanely implausible characters throughout and there you have it.

This movie is strictly entertainment. There's not much substance other than that. There were a lot of really funny moments where I found myself laughing pretty hard. They even do a decent job at trying to bring some heart into it. But in all reality, it was more fun just watching Sandler and Barrymore together again, rather than really focusing on the story. I don't know what it is but I just feel the Adam Sandler/Drew Barrymore couple is far more realistic, more believable, than for example that of Sandler and his extremely hot Salma Hayek-portrayed wife of "Grown-Ups".

If you're looking for a laugh this weekend and already watched "X-Men" or are trying to avoid the crowd, go see "Blended". You'll laugh. You probably won't cry. But I'm sure you'll laugh.
